Tiny Brown Carpet Beetles

As its name suggests drugstore beetles love to feed on stored products. Larvae are about 1 8 to 1 4 inch long tan to brownish in color slow moving and densely covered with hairs or bristles. This tiny flying beetle is also named the biscuit beetle or bread beetle and is similar in appearance to the cigarette beetle. One species of brown beetle from the family ptinidae is the drugstore beetle scientific name.

These types of materials carpet beetles routinely feast on include wool felt leather silk fur and feathers. Carpet beetles have a body that is wider towards the end. They range in color from black to speckled with white brown yellow and orange. The adults are 1 16 to 1 8 inch long and oval shaped.

Adult carpet beetles are small and often appear speckled or mottled. It grows up to 5 mm in length. You may occasionally find carpet beetles in your pantry feeding on grains.

They have an elongated body which is covered in hair or large setae. In a few weeks the tiny eggs laid by adult beetles hatch into the fabric consuming larvae.
